“Lost in Space” by Ryan Lagup

We have new music on deck this week from Ryan Lagup. “Lost in Space” is his hot new jam that’s ripping the BMS Radio Network playlists.

We recently caught up with Ryan Lagup. He was nice enough to answer a few questions for us.

What is your music background?
I began attending piano lessons In grade school. I was In the school choir. In high school I was a student at the Performing Artist Academy School for the Performing Arts where I studied In vocal, dance and acting.

Who are your musical influences?
As a young kid, it was “Kids Incorporated & Mickey Mouse Club.” When I got older it was the movie Grease and Michael Jackson, my aunty Jackie, Boyz2men, and Lorie Salvatera.

What are your long-term career goals?
To keep doing music and just keep my support from the people with me. Im proof you dont need a major record label to make money with music.

What type of recording process do you use and who produced your recording?
Well I work with a lot of independent producers who send me a beat and if I feel it ill write to it, excuse me I mean I actually just start free styling whatever’s in my head, record it. I go back to it a couple days later and if I like what I hear its a keeper and I work on it, I am always writing new music. This next album I’m working on “Lost In Space” Im writing all the music like I do all my albums but this time around im the one producing.

Do you ever get the chance to perform live?
Yes, I just performed earlier tonight. I love performing live. The bigger the crowd the better.

Are you looking for to remain independent or to get a major label deal?
I’m happy being independent. I’ve been in the business for over a decade now. I actually run my own label. I do get offers from labels, Independent labels that is and if the right one did come along , then I would jump on it. Major label would be great too but I don’t want to be a puppet, you know what I mean.

If anything, what would you change about the music industry today?
Let artists be who they want to be and bring CD’s back. I used to love buying albums and reading the booklet> I’m still a CD guy.

Do you have any advice for up-and-coming artists?
Don’t be afraid to be who you are. Don’t let anyone tell you that you cant do it, if you wake up and sleep at night with music on your mind then maybe you should pursue it. Be ready to work hard, play hard, be motivated and dedicated and be ready to take and handle a lot of rejection because the business is all about rejection but just know that’s not the end of the road.

Anything else you want to say to the people?
Yes. I have a new single coming out “Lost In Space” and also I have a virtual concert on September 17th, tickets go on sale July 1st checkout my website for more details www.ryanlagup.com
