Independent Canadian artist Van Hechter is back on the scene with a new release titled “I believe.” This is his follow up to the Number One hit single “Love Elastic.”

The new release is about not becoming cynical during hard times. It encourages listeners to push to be positive when things may not look their best.

Van Hechter is currently pushing his positive vibes in Florida. He’s promoting both singles and getting fantastic feedback in the city of Miami.

Meanwhile, he is looking forward to visiting New York again in June 2021. He’s working on a project with DJ Chauncey Dandridge. His next album is set to release around that time.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Van Hechter again. He shared a few of his thoughts with the BMS Radio Network.

Tell us about your new single, “I Believe.”

It’s all about not becoming cynical in hard times. “I believe the impossible can happen. I believe horizons only broaden. I believe in pushing hearts wide open. I believe they weren’t meant to harden.”

What sets your music apart? What is unique or uncommon about it?

My music is optimistic even when dark. There is always hope in a Van Hechter song. Even when the topic is sad, I find something uplifting to point out.

What is the most useless talent you have?

If you do fall in love with me, you may never be able to shake it off totally. That gets me in trouble. It’s an absolutely useless special power.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

Very little. LOL! I just have no choice. I may be forced to get a “real” job one day, but making music is the only way for me to feel complete. Many aspects of my life suck, but the magic of creating a song outweighs the negative by far.

If given the chance, what artist would you most like to collaborate with?

Calvin Harris, Lizzo, or Dua Lipa.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I am thrilled that so much new music is circulating easily. I am thrilled that people with little means can access most everything for free. This being said, it’s harder for musicians like me to make a great living. I’m doing ok, but I worry at times.

We hear you are promoting in Florida right now. What’s going on with that?

I was told my songs “Love Elastic” and “I Believe” were playing in Miami. I figured I’d go check for myself. Since I can’t do shows, at least I can be where I am liked at the moment. I’m getting press which is cool. Plus, I love when locals say hi!

What’s next for you?

I am launching a Stonewall Inn tribute album in NYC next June. It contains duets with resident DJ Chauncey Dandridge. I loved performing there during the 50th anniversary, and felt compelled to pay tribute. If you are in NYC during Pride 2021, look for me. I’ll be all over the place. It will soon be time to produce a new solo album with my main man DJ Eryck Wyseman. I’ve already started writing lyrics. That should come out in 2022.
